How To Promote Content On Instagram
15 August 2019
When it comes to advertising your small business on social media, the ability to promote an organic post on Instagram has never been easier! The feature was designed with small to medium business owners in mind, allowing them to quickly and easily create a paid social media advertisement using the existing content available on their Instagram profile. However, there are still some essential elements to include in your advertising to ensure that the content is reaching the right people and achieving your desired results. So how do you successfully promote your post on Instagram?
1. Choose Where To Send People
When you begin to set up your promotion, Instagram will ask you where you would like to send people. Your options are to send people to your profile, your website or to direct them to start a conversation by sending you an Instagram message.
If you choose to send them to your profile, the click-through on the advertisement will be labelled as “Visit Instagram Profile”, which is the best way to show off your collection of content and grow your following.
By choosing to send people to your website, you will have the ability to select a range of options for your call to action, including “Learn More”, “Shop Now”, “Contact Us”, and more. When you set up this function, you can send users to any website of your choice (but of course, it’s typically best if you send them to your own site).
The direct message option is best for starting a conversation with your audience. A call to action will be displayed on your ad that says “Send Message”, which could be a great way to personalise the experience with your followers.
2. Define Your Target Audience
With paid advertising, it’s essential that you define your audience to reach relevant people on your channel. Instagram offers an algorithm for creating an automatic targeted audience based on people similar to your profile followers. Although this is a quick and easy method for setting up your ad, it’s likely that this audience isn’t going to be the most accurate for promoting your brand and products or services.
Instead, select the create your own audience option. This will allow you to reach people in a location that is most appropriate for your objective. Typically, selecting relevant cities or a set radius around these cities is the first step to narrowing your audience.
Next, define some relevant interests that relate to your ad content. Choose as many interests as you need, but don’t go off track in an attempt to reach the largest variety of people possible. For example, if you run an online store that sells casual women’s clothing, your targeted interests would include: online shopping, women’s clothing, shopping and fashion, street fashion, streetwear, shopping, clothing.
And lastly, select your target age & gender. Ensure that you narrow it down though – even if you think that your product is for everyone, avoid doing 16-65 years old as the age range because it’s much too broad. Also, if your product doesn’t appeal to both genders, select the appropriate one.
Oh, and don’t forget that your audience can be saved so it’s much quicker to create ads in the future when you promote your posts!
3. Select Your Budget & Duration
The great thing about Instagram is that your budget can be whatever you would like it to be! If your experimenting with your advertising strategy, start off small and increase it as you go. However, try to avoid using extremely small budgets. If you’ve running an ad for 30 days but your budget is only $5 per day, your results aren’t going to be significant. Instead, take that total budget of $150 and distribute it over a smaller duration, so $30 per day over 5 days. This will allow you to reach more people each day and get you the best results for your money, which is the overall objective of running an ad campaign of course!
Boosting a post on Instagram is a great way to grow your audience and increase conversions when you want to set up a quick and easy campaign. If you’re new to digital marketing, sticking to this method for your smaller advertising campaigns is a cost-effective method to grow your business.
However, if you’re wanting to scale your business further and run much larger advertising campaigns, but you don’t know where to begin, Liquid Creative Agency can develop a digital marketing plan and implement an advertising strategy across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, or the Google Ads network.
